WATER fetching
CONCEPT Behind the Games
This game is designed to show the importance of water for a person’s survival and health and how the state of his or her health affects the others by granting the player control over all members of a family unit. It is imperative to communicate this concept because most citizens residing in developed nations take for granted their privilege for having water that is readily accessible, affordable and safe to use. But for those living in less developed nations, developing and industrialized nations, where water quality and quantity is easily compromised and inconveniences experienced more frequently, the importance of water is more noticeable. Water quality can easily be compromised by agricultural runoffs slipping through natural water systems, extreme natural hazards, mudslides, leakages in waterworks and more. Water quantity is also important in that an average person is required to consume an average of two liters of drinking water per day in order for the organs to function properly.
The first game does not touch upon the topic of water quality but focuses on quantity. By having sole control over all members of a family unit, the player will be encouraged to reflect on just how important it is that the body needs water in order to survive and learn how to manage limited manpower by being given the task to send individual family members to collect water from different sources.
